It was reported a while since people last heard anything about the Wii U, Nintendo’s next generation Wii console, but the company yesterday confirmed that the console will not be released until at least April 2012. Nintendo launched the Wii at E3 in June 2011. The company was very much clear about the release of console even at that time and they decided not to release it until the end of the year. However, ‘2012’ is pretty vague for a release date, and up until today, we still had no idea as to when Nintendo’s new console would hit the market.

Now, the company has pin down the things considerably with the revelation that the Wii U will no be launched until its next fiscal year begins i.e. in April 2012. The company also informed that the wholesome product will be show cashed at E3 in 2012. This leads us to a guess that the company expects either a summer launch or at least, a fall launch in time for the holiday shopping season.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in his speech during the ocmpany’s financial results for the first half of FY 2011, talked that the company was taking its time with the Wii U launch as it does not want to repeat 3Ds launch.¬† He also added that the company has undergone bitter experiences with the Nintendo 3Ds, and so they are making¬† attempts to prepare so that the company will not stagger during its release. Nintendo was earlier this year forced to cut the price of the 3DS just a few months after it launched following disappointing sales of the handheld console.
